Kate Jones, Organ
Kate Jones studied music at King’s College London, majoring in accompaniment and composition (with David Lumsdaine and Nicola LeFanu) and was awarded the Music Faculty Jelf Medal. Piano studies were with Elisabeth Newson at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. In addition to being the repetiteur for the RAW Voices Academy, and having a busy teaching practice, Kate is also accompanist to the Winchester Cathedral Junior and Youth Choirs, Alresford Community Choir, and was previously a staff member for the Hampshire County Youth Choirs. Recent performances with choirs include Bernstein Chichester Psalms, Vivaldi Gloria, Schubert Mass in G and Rutter Magnificat. Concerto performances have included Mozart K458, Kabalevsky No 3 Op. 50, and J S Bach D minor and Brandenburg No 5. Having participated in the inaugural ‘Music at Walnut’ concert, she has since given two solo recitals in the series. During her time in London, Kate was repetiteur to both the King’s College gilbert & Sullivan Society and Music Department Opera productions and the King’s College Chorus. Kate has held instrumental teaching posts at Boundary Oak School, Fareham and The Atherley School, Southampton and was previously the Director of Music at St Barnabas, Swanmore. She has performed on the Handel organ at Holy Trinity, Gosport in recital and also with the Hampshire County Youth Choir in Fauré Requiem. Previous solo projects include masterclasses with Graham Fitch, Heli Ignatius-Fleet and Roshan Magub at the Purcell School. As well as an interest in piano duet and two-piano works, Kate arranges repertoire for the Alresford Community Choir and is currently composing a new work for them, based on Hampshire folk songs.
